I want to thank everyone who volunteered to gift wrap tonight. The club made $600 which will go a long way towards club supplies. Great job everyone.
As a reminder the next club practice is January 6 in Bryant Pond, Maine. Let me know if you have any questions.

Gift Wrapping at LL Bean
LL Bean has given SMBC an opportunity to earn some money by gift wrapping at the Retail store in Freeport. Many local organizations apply to gift wrap each year but only a few are selected.
This year SMBC was selected to gift wrap from 3 - 9 p.m. on Dec 18. We will need a several volunteers to help gift wrap. It is preferable that all volunteers sign-up for 2 or 3 or more hour shifts.
Please contact me if you are able to help.

Practice Sunday Nov 18 and next Sunday Nov 25
View of Lake Christopher in Bryant Pond looking east
Yesterday we had the first practice at the Univ of Maine Conservation camp in Bryant Pond. It is a little further away than North Yarmouth, but it is a great facility and a fun place to practice in any weather.
This weekend we will have another practice on Sunday Nov 25th from 10 to 2. The weather looks like it will be good all week.
Practice is for ages 10 and up and include air rifles for middle school and .22s for high school athletes.
Practices are free to all members and $10 for non-members. The fee helps pay for the facility and ammo. Join SMBC to avoid the practice fee. Membership is only $50 for an individual and $100 for Families.
Following the practice we will have a club meeting at my house in Pownal from 6 to 8pm November 25. Please join us to share your thoughts about the sport of biathlon and how much interest there is in keeping a club and perhaps developing it further.
My address is 649 Hodsdon Rd, Pownal.
We will have a potluck meeting so bring your favorite dish, dessert or salad. Tea, coffee, juice and water will be provided.
I will be updating the blog on a regular basis this winter so look for club information there. Emails will be slowly going away.
Thanks and I hope to see you Sunday.

Upcoming events
The last Tuesday night practice was tonight Sept 11. Due to the sun setting earlier and it being hard to get to practice much earlier than 5 we will look at having practices on Saturday. Stay tuned for when that will start.
SMBC is hosting 2 events in October.
1. October 20 - Waterville Quarry trails biathlon race.
I need 5 or 6 volunteers to help with this race. You do not have to have a lot of experience to help. Waterville has some great new trails. We will host this fall event and maybe another event in the winter.
2. October 27 - Eyes on the Pies roller ski race, Pineland Farms. This is a great event to get kids and adults out racing on a fun and challenging course on the beautiful Pineland Farms campus.
We need 8 or 9 volunteers for this race, timing, course marshall, registration.
More info will be out on these events soon. Save the dates!!! YOu can volunteer or race if you want to challenge yourself.

SMBC practice will be canceled today as it is a bit wet and I melt in the rain. J
This will give everyone time to read those new school books you have been waiting all summer for.
See you next week.
We will begin practice at the usual time, 5pm next week.
As the sun sets earlier we will have to pick another night/day to hold practices, perhaps it will have to be a weekend day as school practices take over.
Please let me know if you have a preference on a day and time. Weekends

Practices and Summer Camp
Practices
June 5, today's practice is canceled, mostly due to the fact I strained my back, partially due to the weather.
Air rifle practices will be Tuesday's from 5 to 7 p.m. Hopefully starting next week, June 12.
Practice location is at the L.L. Bean Fogg Farm, Dessert road, Freeport Maine
.22 practice will be this Sunday June 10 from 5 to 7pm. bring your rifles, cuff and running shoes and be ready for flying bugs.
I have 2 extra rifles that can be used at practices if there is a high school student wanting to learn biathlon.
Summer Camp
Summer biathlon camp will be July 5 to July 9 and will be part of the Maine State Team camp.
I have extended the SMBC camp one day so we will have 3 full days in Fort Kent and 2 half days.
We will drive up early morning Thursday July 5 and return late Monday, July 9.
Most of the training will be with the Maine State team. For middle school kids we will have some separate training times
If there is interest we could schedule a 2nd mini camp later in the summer.
US Biathlon Winter Nationals
March 2013, winter nationals are in our back yard. Yes we have a very large yard. Nationals are in Fort Kent. I hope many of you plan on racing at Nationals. If you do then this is the time to start training for the event, especially all you future seniors who have been doing this sport since your freshmen year. Between all the potential coaches in the Southern Maine area we should be able to create a schedule that works for everyone.
Btw, summer Nationals are in Lake Tahoe in August if anyone wants to go. I've always wanted to go there. :)
Sorry for the late cancellation for today's practice.
Seniors have a great week of activities and congratulations on achieving your high school diploma.
